Bust out the Dramamine and brace for PTSD. Keira Knightley is on board to lead a film adaption of Ruth Ware’s bestselling novel “The Woman in Cabin 10” at Netflix.

In what marks one of Dan Lin’s first green lights as the new film chief at the streamer, “The Woman in Cabin 10” follows a travel journalist (Knightley) assigned to cover the launch of a luxury yacht. When she witnesses a passenger tossed overboard in the dead of night, no one believes her story as all on the ship have been accounted for. Doggedly she searches for answers, putting her own life in danger as the boat barrels through the desolate North Sea.

Ware’s book is beloved, and marks a juicy protagonist role for Academy Award nominee Knightley. The film will be directed by Simon Stone, whose credits include the 2021 Netflix project “The Dig,” starring Carey Mulligan, Ralph Fiennes and Lily James, as well as the 2015 Geoffrey Rush drama “The Daughter.” Joe Shrapnel and Anna Waterhouse (“Snake Eyes”) wrote the script for “Cabin 10,” on which director Stone also took a pass.

Sister, the production company co-founded by Elizabeth Murdoch and Jane Featherstone and led by CEO Cindy Holland, will produce the project with Debra Hayward. Sister’s Ilda Diffley will executive produce.

Knightley is represented by United Agents, Range Media Partners, Narrative and Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern. She’s currently filming the Netflix series “Black Doves,” and recently appeared in “Boston Strangler” and “The Aftermath.” Her two Oscar nods came with the 2005 revisiting of “Pride & Prejudice,” a sleeper box office hit, and 2014’s “The Imitation Game.”

Stone is repped by CAA, Stacey Testro International and David Fox at Myman Greenspan Fox Rosenberg Mobasser Younger & Light. Writers Shrapnel and Anna Waterhouse are at CAA.

Oscar nominee Keira Knightley is set to star in dystopian sci-fi thriller Conception, in which the British government has taken control over parenting.

Written and directed by Camille Griffin (Silent Night), Celine Rattray and Trudie Styler are producing for Maven Screen Media and Fortitude is launching for international sales at the upcoming AFM.

CAA and Range Media Partners are handling domestic sales. Fortitude is also financing the film, which will be a UK production produced under an Equity contract.

The official synopsis reads: “Conception is a sci-fi thriller set in the not-too-distant future of Britain, where the government has taken authoritarian rule over parenting. The film follows Rita (Knightley), a loyal civil servant and believer in the unforgiving system she upholds, until unexpected events endanger her own parental status, rendering her victim to the same laws she so readily inflicted on others.

The film reunites Knightley and Griffin, who previously collaborated on the film Silent Night, also produced by Rattray and Styler. Additional casting is underway.

Maven said: “We are in awe of Camille’s vivid imagination and creative talent. She has a unique ability to express big complex ideas in every day, relatable events. We are thrilled to reassemble the Silent Night team and work with Keira again.”

Camille Griffin added: “I’m lucky to have found Keira. She is as great an ally as she is a talent. I plan to make a unique and exciting film together.”

Griffin is represented by CAA and Range Media Partners. Knightley is represented by United Agents, Range Media Partners, Narrative and Jason Sloane.

20th Century Studios has set Keira Knightley to star in Boston Strangler, a drama written and to be directed by Matt Ruskin, best known for Crown Heights. Ridley Scott and Kevin Walsh of Scott Free will produce alongside Tom Ackerley and Josey McNamara of LuckyChap Entertainment. Pic begins shooting in December in Boston.

Based on the infamous Boston Strangler murders, this is the true story of Loretta McLaughlin, the first reporter to connect the murders and break the story of the Strangler. She and fellow reporter Jean Cole challenged the sexism of the early 1960s to report on the city’s most notorious serial killer and worked tirelessly to keep women informed. Loretta pursued the story at great personal risk and uncovered corruption that cast doubt on the true identity of the Boston Strangler.

Boston-native Ruskin researched McLaughlin and Cole by tracking down their families and their actual research from the early ’60s.

Knightly plays McLaughlin. She next stars in Silent Night, and voices the title character in Charlotte.

Sam Roston will oversee for Scott Free and Bronte Payne for LuckyChap. Sarah Shepard is overseeing for 20th Century Studios.

Knightley is repped by United Agents, Range and attorney Jason Sloane. Ruskin is repped by UTA, Grandview and Granderson Des Rochers; LuckyChap is with Management 360, CAA and attorney Jeff Bernstein.

Keira Knightley is in talks to star in the new Searchlight sci-fi drama Conception, reuniting with her Silent Night director Camille Griffin. Griffin will write and direct, with Celine Rattray and Trudie Styler producing through their Maven Screen Media banner.

The story is set in the near future, when the British government takes authoritarian rule over parenting. It follows a vigorous License Officer (Knightley), who is a firm believer in the controversial system she upholds until an unexpected event imperils her own parental status in the very administration she enforces.

Searchlight SVP Production Taylor Friedman and Director of Development & Production Pete Spencer will oversee for the studio.

Knightley, Griffin and Maven are coming off their upcoming Christmas-themed pic Silent Night, which Endeavor Content is selling at the Cannes virtual market and also stars Griffin’s son Roman, who starred in the Searchlight’s Oscar-nominated satire Jojo Rabbit.

Keira Knightley is the latest actor to take on narrating duties for an animated short film relaunched by environmental activists Extinction Rebellion.

Titled “Climate Crisis, and Why We Should Panic,” the film, translated into 14 different languages, is the second of a two-part explainer video series for Extinction Rebellion, focusing on the climate and ecological crisis. Knightley — who will next star in and executive produce the series “The Essex Serpent” — explains in the film what is causing climate change, why governments must enter crisis mode to tackle this issue, and what will happen if something isn’t done about it now.

“I want to speak out in support of Extinction Rebellion,” Knightley said. “Lending my voice to the most urgent issue of our time feels like the right way for me to take a stand, in the hope that we can leave a world worth living in for our children.”

“Climate change and the ecological crisis are two sides of the same problem. This animation explains the climate change aspect in a no-nonsense way — though the message is horrifying to hear,” Knightley added.

The film is written, directed and animated by Miritte Ben Yitzchak.

The first part of the film, “Extinction Emergency, and Why We Must Act Now,” voiced by “Moonlight” actor Naomie Harris and scored by Brian Eno, summarizes the planet’s biodiversity loss, runaway consumerism and the ecological crisis that now faces us, and how the consequences will affect millions of lives around the world.

Other film shorts released by Extinction Rebellion include live action “Guardians of Life,” starring Joaquin Phoenix, Adria Arjona, Oona Chaplin, Rosario Dawson, Albert Hammond Jr., Q’orianka Kilcher and Matthew Modine; and the animation “The Gigantic Change,” featuring the voices of Whoopi Goldberg and Livia Nelson.

Extinction Rebellion’s next U.K. protest is set for Sept. 1, when the U.K. Parliament returns after summer recess.
